5 Advantages of WordPress on a VPS – Guest Blog Post by Versio

VPS provide the best of both worlds

Virtual private servers allow a suite of controls and simple functionality. Add WordPress into the equation, and you can make a visually />appealing website in a matter of hours. Not convinced? Here are five advantages to using WordPress on a VPS. Whether it is your first website or your current server if failing your growing business on multiple fronts, internet success could be a few clicks away.

1. Dedicated Resources

Remember that time in university halls or shared accommodation when you spent all day looking forward to the food in the fridge? Only to come home and find someone else had eaten it? Well, virtual private servers are the opposite, providing you with a dedicated allocation of resources.

No one else is going into your fridge except you. Bandwidth, RAM and storage space can all be allocated and scaled monthly. If you find your WordPress site taking off and need additional resources, VPS’s can be easily adjusted.

2. Less Downtime

503 errors are the bane of a growing WordPress site. The direct result of a duff server, they can be a common occurrence in shared server scenarios. Especially if another website needs to restart the server to install applications.

Gain more control over when a server goes down with a VPS. If you know the quietest time for visitors to your WordPress site is the early hours of the morning, server restarts can be initiated without the need to get permission from the host provider.

3. Simple and intuitive installation

Several reputable hosting companies will do a lot of the base application installation process for you. Moreover, setting up the WordPress for the first time can be done using an intuitive interface. Multiple apps, not just WordPress, can be installed at the click of a button. Even better is you save the additional cost incurred by using specific WordPress managed hosts. No need to learn lines of code, or be met with conflicting script errors.

4. Custom options do exist if needed

We know we said WordPress on a VPS was easy. However, it can also be difficult, if you want it to be. Technical expertise will be required, but using VPS admin functions, it is possible to unlock advanced WordPress features. If you know your PHP code from your HP printer, a world of customization awaits.

5. VPS can grow with WordPress site

The option to adjust plans on a monthly basis means you will never pay for more resources than you need. It also means you won’t be limited by bandwidth easier. As you WordPress site grows, so to can your VPS package. Scalability of CPU, RAM or bandwidth is critical regardless of whether it is a new site, or a well established one.

So don’t wait any longer and order your VPS (managed or unmanaged) directly at Versio!

Community Day

We have kept you waiting way to long. We know. Here it finally is: more information about Community Day!

October 28th – Community Day

First: do not confuse Contributor Day and Community day. For Community Day, we’ll be doing something entirely different.Away from our screens. Our primary goals for Community Day: getting to know each other, having fun, sharing what we love about this community. Some minor networking is allowed, but please leave the elevator pitches at home.

When brainstorming about activities for Community Day, we came up with some more wishes. On top of the ones mentioned above:

  • We would like connect some of our newer members to more experienced members, so that we’ll keep our community growing;
  • We preferred an activity that would be affordable for everyone. A no cost activity would be even better.
  • We were looking for ways to sparkle some more good vibes towards put our sponsors one more time.

Meet the SponsorScavengerHunt (Spot the SponsorFox)!

Join us for a fresh cup of Joe and a sweet or savory snack between 10:00 am and 10:30am at our temporary headquarters. Meet your team members and start talking strategy.

Around the same time, teams of SponsorFoxes will start roaming a neatly defined piece of Utrecht Center (including the Hoog Catharijne Mall, especially if it were to rain cats & dogs).

How does this SponsorScavengerHunt work?

The hunt starts after the sendoff. Run, hopscotch or stroll through the city center and keep your eyes out for hiding sponsor teams. They will be wearing branded apparel and may bring a mascotte. If you discover a SponsorTeam, take a picture that includes your team of particpants and the SponsorTeam. On our WordCamp Utrecht Facebook page, you will find a logo of each participating Sponsor Fox team. Post your photo as a reply to this logo-post.

Exactly two hours after the starting signal, the SponsrScavengerHunt stops. Photos that are posted after that, will not count for the final score. Walk back to the headquarters, for another drink and the award ceremony.

How can you win?

You can earn points for each SponsorFoxTeam you discover. You will need to post a photo of your team and the SponsorFoxTeam in reply to the logo of that particular sponsor. The first post gets the highest amount of points. Depending on how many teams will participate, the first 3 or the first 5 teams will receive points. We will explain that before the starting signal. The three teams that have collected the most points win a prize.

What can you win?

We are currently arranging nice prizes for you. The focus is on nice gadgets, not on big, valuable gifts.

What does it cost to participate?

That is perhaps the best news. Thanks to our great sponsors, it won’t cost you anything. Not even a penny. So come and join in!

How can you register

Buy a ticket for both days on the ticket page [link]. You will receive the last details a few days before the event.

Do you want to help make Community Day a success?

Help us out in either one of these ways:

  1. Register as a volunteer and tell us in the form that you would also like to help out during Community Day;
  2. Help us to promote WordCamp Utrecht. Let your network know that you are going, actively invite new people to come along. WordCamps are known to be one of the most friendly events for newcomers, and we all carry that out.

28 October – Community Day

  • We willen graag oude bekenden en nieuwere gezichten met elkaar in contact brengen, zodat we als community met elkaar door kunnen groeien;
  • We willen graag dat het voor iedereen betaalbaar is of zelfs niets extra’s kost;

  1. Meld je aan als vrijwilliger en vermeld in het formulier dat je ook graag tijdens community day wilt helpen;
